Surgeons Overview

The Medical Sales College is committed to professional medical sales education. Since the inception of the Medical Sales College, we have utilized professional instruction of world-class orthopedic surgeons. Each student enrolled in any specialty or masters program, spend time in live surgery with our exceptional faculty at our approved facilities.

As a medical sales representative, understanding a surgeon’s need and what role a representative plays in the surgical theater is paramount. As you spend the day in the operating room with our surgeon partners, typically you will see multiple orthopaedic cases, learn from surgeons and see experienced representatives in action.



Dr. Ted Parks – Orthopedic Reconstruction & Sports Medicine Instructor – Staff Faculty

Dr. Parks grew up in Denver, Colorado. He received both a bachelors and a Masters degree in biological sciences from Stanford University and then his M.D. from Yale Medical School. Following his graduation from Yale, Dr. Parks completed his internship and orthopedic residency training at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California and completed a fellowship in sports medicine with Dr. Frank Noyes in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Parks is specialty trained in advanced arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee and shoulder and has been a team physician for numerous high school, college, and professional athletes. His expertise includes hip and knee replacement, shoulder surgery and arthroscopic knee reconstruction. Dr. Parks joined Western Orthopaedics, P.C. in 1994 and provides services to patients in outreach clinics monthly in Kansas. He is a clinical professor at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. In 2008 he received the “Outstanding Clinical Faculty Teaching Award” and in 2009, 2010 as well as 2011 the Peak Performers award for orthopedics. He is also an instructor for the American College of Physicians (regionally and nationally) and has been chosen by 5280 Magazine as one of Denver’s “Top Docs” eleven years in a row. Dr. Parks is Board Certified and is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of numerous organizations including The Colorado Medical Society.

Dr. Kevin Nagamani – Orthopedic Extremities Instructor – Staff Faculty

Dr. Nagamani was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Houston, Texas. He received his B.S. in biochemistry and biology from Trinity University in San Antonio, and earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After completing his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, Dr. Nagamani went on to a fellowship for additional specialty training in foot and ankle surgery at Harvard University in Boston, MA. Dr. Nagamani has received additional training in Arthroscopic surgery, reconstruction, total ankle replacement and great toe replacement, fracture treatment, and shockwave therapy. He has widespread knowledge and experience in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders and general orthopedic surgery. He is board certified and a diplomat of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Timothy J. Birney – Spine Instructor – Staff Faculty

Dr. Birney received his BA from Dartmouth College and obtained his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating cum laude in 1983. Following his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Birney completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the State University of New York in Buffalo, New York, under Dr. Edward H. Simmons. Dr. Birney is a Denver spine specialist, specializing in spinal disorders, and has been a practicing partner with Western Orthopaedics, P.C. since 1989. He is Board Certified and is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as a member of the North American Spine Society. He is also a member of the Colorado Orthopedic Society, Colorado Medical Society, Denver Medical Society and the Simmons Surgical Society. In addition to his practice at Western Orthopaedics, P.C., Dr. Birney is a well-respected speaker and publicist on spinal disorders and sees patients once a month at outreach clinics in Kansas.


Dr. Steven Lyons – Orthopedic Reconstruction – Staff Faculty

Dr. Lyon’s is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and fellowship trained in joint replacement and adult reconstruction. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, he received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University of Chicago and his medical degree from Rush University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency training at Wayne State University in Michigan, serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Lyons completed a Total Joint Fellowship at the University of Utah with Aaron A. Hofmann, M.D. His interests are in adult, mainly knee and hip replacement.
He is known nationally and internationally as an expert in joint replacement, with recent trips to Europe and South America; both lecturing and operating. Dr. Lyons is presently on the design and outlay teams for various innovative technologies to further advance joint replacement and arthritis surgery and has been chosen as a member in “Who’s Who in Orthopedics” for orthopedic surgery.
