Orthopaedic Extremities Program
The Orthopaedic Extremities Program is a specialized course focusing on repairs and reconstruction of the foot and ankle complex, the hand and wrist complex, the elbow, and shoulder joints. Extremity reps usually have a larger target market of prospective surgeon customers, you manage a large volume of cases, and you have more variety in the kinds of cases you cover. You will likely be working with surgeons in both hospitals and surgery centers.
As an MSC student, you will learn about upper extremity cases including wrist fractures, internal and external fixation devices, bioresorbable fixation, and surgical releases for contraction deformities and carpal tunnel syndrome. You will learn about fractures to the forearm, elbow, humerus, and glenohumeral joint, and we also address fracture fixation of the shoulder.
For lower extremity cases, we review fracture, fusion, and wound complications of the foot, including Hallux Valgus, fracture dislocations of the Lis Franc complex, internal and external fixation of the ankle, as well as ankle replacement procedures.
There is significant crossover between the extremities, sports medicine, and trauma markets and because of the complexity and variety of cases covered, you may have a more consultative role with your surgeon customer.
